"Why do you look at the speck that is in your brother's eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye?
. . . You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye and then you will see clearly to take out
the speck that is in your brother's eye."
If you are looking for a partial definition of a hypocrite, here it is!
While hypocrisy is just one of our many self-consuming traits,
it is a sinful,
intertwined way of life
that furthers our own sins
while deceiving others.
Are we not eager to repair some small sin
in another person,
when we are in need of a major repair ourselves?
God doesn't say
we are never to help with the speck
that is in our brother's eye,
but He does say we must first subject
ourselves to our own scrutiny.
As Christians we are to avoid being over-curious, inquiring into the faults of others
so as to condemn them,
while trying to appear
Scritpure instructs us to first discern God's will for ourselves, then use loving discretion to aid our brother.
