Satan first tempted Eve to transfer her trust from God to her own reasoning,
(as if she could handle things by herself)!
Of course she couldn't
and of course we can't either.
We need to rely upon God.
Not just in one thing every now and again,
but in everything, day in and day out.
And how do we do that?
First we should begin every day in prayer and study of God's Word. We should get ourselves focused on His right pathway.
I find if I don't do that I am making all kinds of wrong decisions.
Then adding to that, I am thinking about what pleases me instead of what pleases God.
Before I know it I have strayed away from even desiring to rely upon God. And, you guessed it, that only leads to more sin: complaining, feeling defeated, thinking I am better than others, not wanting to take care of the things God has entrused me with on a daily basis, and a lot of other sins.
In short, my own reasoning takes over. I become my own God, deciding what is good in my own eyes, while forgetting all about the need to keep my eyes on the Lord Jesus, while recognizing Satan's evil work to my mind.

We must learn to put down our feet upon the promises of God's Word. When I am troubled, afraid, need hope, help...whatever, I go to a particular promise that deals with my situation.
Then I "lay my soul" - so-to-speak upon that promise.
I believe it. I pray it back to God.
"Father you have said you
are with me wherever I go.
I am trusting that now. Help me to rest in your assurance.
God asks all of us, His children, to obey Him.
If we disobey, disbelieve and disassociate ourselves from Him we will not
reap the blessings He has stored up for us.
If you are afraid, clingue to the promise that says "What time I am afraid I will trust in thee." Psalm 56:3
Ask Him to help you trust in Him, to quiet your soul and wait upon His great power in your life.
Also, "God has not given me a spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind." 2 Timothy 1:7
His Word is true.
It is historically true and true in its application to one's life, one's heart,
and to everything in the universe.
If you do not know the God of Scripture, and you desire in your heart to turn from sin and follow Him in everything you do, cry out to Him. Ask Him to give you a new heart, one that loves Him and desires to follow Him in everything you say and do. Repent of your sin.
Open His Word. As God to help you believe it and apply it to your life.
(Repentance is a change or reversal of mind - a conviction of sin, a deep desire to obey God and follow Him at all cost.)
Ask God to help you recognized specific sins in your life and cry out to Him to strip those sins away from you.
Trust in Him today. Reject the darkness of sin that is all around you
and specifically the sin that dwells in your heart.
Look to and depend upon God's divine revelation, and the pure light of the Holy Spirit leading you into His truth.
