Fighting Fire With Fire
How is it that even though we seldom set out to harm our neighbor, when he offends us, we are tempted to retaliate by fighting fire with fire?
I have found that once I give into that kind of anger I have left all good senses behind ! When for a second I become delighted to set the record straight and teach my neighbor a thing or two, it's pitiful really.
Actually, it's more than that!
Here's what God says about that in His Word!
"To sum up, all of you be harmonious, sympathetic, brotherly, kindhearted, and humble in spirit; not returning evil for evil or insult for insult, but giving a blessing instead; for you were called for the purpose that you might inherit a blessing.
I Peter 3:8,9
The temptation to retaliate signals to all of us that our faith is often tried through the lived-out tests of God's providence.
While we may think someone else needs to be taught a lesson, God often teaches us a lesson instead.
