Finding Hope, Not Hope - So, For Your Soul
Finding Hope, Not Hope - So, For Your Soul

                      Fear

"For God did not give us a spirit of timidity - of cowardice, of craven
and cringing and fawning fear -
but [He has given us a spirit]
of power and of love and of calm
and well balanced mind
and discipline and self-control."
2Timothy 1:7 Amplified Bible

Is there something
you believe God would have you do,
but you feel intimidated
and fearful
just thinking about it?

Perhaps you fear you are inadequate
for the task,
or that you won't be able to do a good job and thus fear the criticism of others.

Why has God brought this
about in your life?
Does He want you to trust Him?
Does He want you to claim His promises and rely upon His Word?

Can you let yourself depend upon the fact that God has not given you
a spirit of fear?
Can you let yourself believe
what He has said in His Word?

What He has given you
is just the opposite of fear.
Rely upon Him to give you the power,
the love and the calmness of a well-balanced mind
that is disciplined and self-controlled.

And do not take the glory for yourself
BUT praise Him for it.

There is a difference between

the true and blessed hearer of God's Word, and the person who misses the blessing because he hears to forget.

He does not purpose to remember.

He does no listen intently

to "get" God's message and obey it.

He is content to sit in the pew

as if he is fulfilling his Sunday obligation to worship,

and nothing more.

He is fooling himself if he thinks his behavior will profit him anything.

Regarding the Looking glass:

To every hearer the true Word of God is a looking glass, a mirror.

Scripture gives us a true reflection of our nature, (even though we often think it is talking to and about our neighbor and not us).

The looking glass of the Word

is not like any other looking-glass,

which merely shows you your external features.

God's looking-glass shows your true nature.

When you read and hear the Word you may not only see your actions there,

but your motives, your desires, your inward condition is revealed plain before your eyes.

In contrast to the person who sees himself but doesn't really see who he really is,

the other hearer does see himself

in the mirrow of God's Word.

He is thoughtful and welcoming of God's truth, because he is confident it alone is what he needs,

he realizes God's truth applies to him.

He spies out the application of what God's Word is saying and quickly embraces it, ready to apply it and make the necessary changes.

God says this person is blessed because he is "not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work."

May God bless this to your heart.
